Pentucket Bank Reports Reaching Milestone of Topping $1 Billion in Assets

Pentucket Bank Tuesday reported it has reached the milestone of topping $1 billion in assets, making it one of the largest mutual banks in Massachusetts and New Hampshire by asset size. Pentucket Bank CEO Jonathan H. Dowst and President Eric G. Leuteritz issued a joint statement noting the accomplishment for a bank that began in 1891 by being open only one day a week. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment of each and every one of our employees. Merrimack Valley Area Gains Jobs While State Sees Overall Seasonal Drop in October

The Merrimack Valley area, including Haverhill, Methuen and Lawrence, gained the highest percentage of jobs last month, while there was a slight overall drop statewide. The revised job report shows a statewide seasonally adjusted preliminary jobs estimate decrease of 800 jobs in October, but an over-the-year gain of 77,100 jobs. Of the 15 areas for which employment estimates are published, 13 areas gained jobs compared to the previous month. The largest percentage increases occurred in the Haverhill-Newburyport-Amesbury statistical area at 1.6%; Lawrence-Methuen-Salem, 1.1%, and Peabody-Salem-Beverly, 1%. From October 2022 to October 2023, 14 areas gained jobs.

Yannalfo Takes Over at Haverhill’s Roma Restaurant

Haverhill’s venerable Roma Restaurant, now under new management, plans to offer fresh pastas; new menu items, deserts, wine and cocktail lists; and entertainment such as acoustic brunches and larger scale events upstairs. Brett Yannalfo of Andover recently took over management. One immediate change is installation of a new point-of-sale system and removal of credit card fees. The restaurant is located at 29 Middlesex St. in Haverhill.

The Next Generation Leaders of the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce are having a networking game night next month. Anna Jaques Hospital Receives ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group

Newburyport-based Anna Jaques Hospital reports it earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. “At Anna Jaques Hospital, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional care to all our patients,” said Dr. Glenn Focht, president of Anna Jaques Hospital. “Receiving an ‘A’ grade is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the dedication, hard work and excellent care provided by our nurses, doctors and staff in every position in the hospital. The Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Holiday Party, Wine Tasting and Fashion Show is coming up at the end of the month. Greater Haverhill Chamber Asks Businesses to Weigh In During Haverhill Tax Vote Tonight

The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce is asking its members to take a position on the way taxes are proportioned between homeowners and commercial, industrial and personal property owners when councilors meet tonight to assign property tax rates. As WHAV reported Monday, if councilors maintain a 165% proportion for commercial and industrial properties, Assessor Christine M. Webb notes property taxes for the average single-family homeowner will rise $180 annually, while average commercial property tax bills decrease by $133 and average industrial property decrease by $284. The single-family average is based on a home valuation of $501,431 and a tax bill of $5,334 if nothing changes. Haverhill Chamber President and CEO Alexandria Eberhardt said Monday, “Each year, the Chamber speaks on behalf of our businesses to help maintain or lower the tax rate for our businesses in the city of Haverhill.
