Haverhill city councilors this week opted to continue discussions on a proposed solar field near Lovers Lane amid concerns over the scope and scale of the plan, which could impact more than 23 acres of green space near the New Hampshire border. Attorney Robert D. Harb, representing applicant Christopher Anderson of Hannigan Engineering said the project proposes using approximately 23 acres of a greater than 120-acre site to build a large-scale solar field. “This is going to be a good source of renewable energy, not carbon-based fuels. We’re going to be tied into the grid,” he said.
Haverhill and Lawrence schools are receiving $1 million each from the state to maintain community-based preschool programs.
The cities are among 30 statewide that were named Thursday to share in $20.3 million in Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative grants. Officials said the grants are part of Gov. Maura T. A 23-year-old man, at the center of Methuen-based drug trafficking, was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for drug trafficking in New Hampshire
U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young said Carlos Alejandro Chevalier Santos was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Court Samantha Elliott. Last June, Chevalier Santos pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute and two counts of distributing controlled substances. Charges are still pending against four others, Jose Luis Guerrero Nunez, Eddy Mendez Carmona, Juan Carlos De Los Santos Romero and Luis Guerrero Cabral.
Stephanie Guyotte recently joined Merrimack Valley YMCA as vice president of marketing and communications. Guyotte, who formerly served as associate director of the UMass Lowell Innovation Hub in Haverhill, will oversee and implement the YMCA’s comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to support the mission. She will work closely with media outlets and serve as the leader for brand awareness, while also supporting YMCA membership and development goals.
