Haverhill Public Library Summer Concert Series Starts Aug. 8 with Jazz Disciples

Haverhill Public Library hosts its Summer Concert Series, starting with the Jazz Disciples this Thursday. The library advises the public to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy live music on the library lawn. Danceable jazz and pop hits band, the Jazz Disciples; swing, jazz and big band standards, Windham Swing Band; and ‘60s and ‘70s classical acoustic artist, Joe Leary will perform. The Windham Swing Band concert is Aug. 15 and the Joe Leary concert is Aug.

‘Ride the Cyclone’ and ‘Coraline’ Performances by Forged Muse Productions this Month

Forged Muse Productions, an educational performing arts company, presents youth theater performances “Ride the Cyclone” and “Coraline: The Musical” this month. “Ride the Cyclone,” is a story about a group of deceased teenagers who must compete for the chance to return to the world of the living. The second, “Coraline: The Musical,” is an adaptation of the popular children’s novel by Neil Gaiman about a young girl who must face the evils hidden in her family’s new house. Attendees will have the chance to play games, participate in activities, and win prizes in the carnivals which will proceed each show except for the final performance of “Coraline.”

Those younger than 13 must have permission from a parent/guardian or a parent/guardian present to attend “Ride the Cyclone” because of adult themes. In addition, because the actors are minors and some scenes are of a sensitive nature, no photography nor video is permitted at the performance.

Teen Game Night at Buttonwoods Museum Aug. 1

Buttonwoods Museum hosts a teen game night Thursday as part of its “August Kids’ Program.”

Teens ages 13 and up can learn how to play the classic boardgame “Risk,” a strategy game based on historical warfare. Each game involves up to eight players, with teens playing either individually or in teams of two, who will compete to conquer territories on a battle map. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. The event is free, but all players must register in advance either using the google form or by emailing the number of players for registration to  [email protected]. The game night will be held Thursday, Aug.

Adult Coloring Night at Haverhill Public Library July 31

Haverhill Public Library is hosting a drop-in adult coloring session Wednesday night. All adults are invited to come enjoy snacks, tea and other refreshments while coloring. Interested attendees may also bring their own drawing and coloring projects if they wish. The program is completely free and open to the public with no registration required. The coloring night will be held Wednesday, July 31, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Milhendler Room at the Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main St.

Haverhill Public Library Hosts Virtual Author Talk for ‘A Daughter of Fair Verona’

Haverhill Public Library features authors Christina Dodd and Susan Elizabeth Philips Tuesday to discuss Dodd’s newest book, “A Daughter of Fair Verona,” in a virtual talk. Interested attendees can look forward to an in-depth discussion of Dodd’s writing as well as books, romance, writing and life as a whole from these two popular romance authors. Dodd’s book is a romantic mystery that follows Rosie Montague, the oldest daughter of the infamous Romeo and Juliet, as she navigates life as an independent young woman in Verona. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library in partnership with a multitude of Massachusetts libraries. The virtual talk will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, July 30, from 7 to 8 p.m. Interested attendees must register through the event page at haverhillpl.com to receive the zoom link and confirmation email.

Wicked Axe Hosts Fundraiser July 27 to Help Family Pay Child’s Medical Needs

Wicked Axe is hosting “Shane Shep: The Eras Tour,” a fundraiser to support the Shephard family, this Saturday. The event is comprised of multiple tournaments, including axe throwing, cornhole and two simulated golf competitions—closest to the pin and longest drive. The axe throwing tournament has been modified to follow both International Axe Throwing Federation and World Axe Throwing League formats, so all axe throwers may participate. There is also an ongoing online auction at revolutionaxe.com for various axes, sheaths and other accessories, and several raffles will be held at the event. Proceeds from the event support, Sylis, oldest son of Shane Shepard, one of the founders of New England axe throwing.

Quigley is Greater Haverhill Arts Association’s Featured Member Artist Through August

The Greater Haverhill Arts Association has named Dianne Quigley as its featured member artist through August. A native of Haverhill, Quigley is a pastel artist with a focus on New England coastal and interior landscapes. She uses soft and hard pastels to create a depth to the lands, seas, coasts and marshes she paints in hopes of bringing a sense of peace and creating a new vision for the beholder. She currently resides in Foxboro and draws inspiration for her pieces from the walking, bicycling, traveling and photography she enjoys. Her paintings have also been exhibited at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, Norfolk Cultural Council, Norwood Gallery and Newburyport Art Association.
