Langley-Adams Library Invites Three Authors to Discuss ‘Irish Coffee Murder’ Book

Leslie Meier, Lee Hollis and Barbara Ross are visiting Groveland’s Langley-Adams Library t to discuss their book, “Irish Coffee Murder.”

The talk happens Monday, Jan. 23, from 7-8 p.m., online, or at the Langley-Adams Library, 185 Main St., Groveland. According to the authors, “You don’t need to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day in Maine, where the chilly March weather offers the perfect excuse to curl up with an Irish coffee.”

Special guest monitor Larissa Ackerman of Kensington Publishing will also be in attendance. Registration is required at langleyadamslib.org.

Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce Offers Annual Mayors and Managers Breakfast Forum

The Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Merrimack Valley Mayors and Managers Breakfast Forum. It takes place Monday, Jan. 23, from 7:15-9:15 a.m., at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston-Andover, 123 Old River Road, Andover. A hot breakfast buffet will be served at 7:30 a.m.

Confirmed speakers include Amesbury Mayor Kassandra Gove, Andover Town Manager Andrew Flanagan, Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, Lawrence Mayor Brian De Pena, Methuen Mayor Neil Perry and Newburyport Mayor Sean Reardon. Lowell City Manager Tom Golden and North Andover Town Manager Melissa Murphy-Rodrigues may also be in attendance.

Langley-Adams Library Tonight: ‘The Fascinating Stories Behind Favorite Christmas Traditions’

Groveland’s Langley-Adams Library is hosting an in-person and virtual event based on author Brian Earl’s book, “Christmas Past: The Fascinating Stories Behind Our Favorite Holiday’s Traditions.”

The talk takes place Monday, Dec. 19, from 7-8 p.m., at the Langley-Adams Library, 185 Main St., Groveland. Earl’s presentation covers traditions ancient and modern and stories of happy accidents, cultural histories, criminal capers and hidden connections between Christmas and broader social, economic and technological influences. Brian Earl is a designer, writer and podcaster in Silicon Valley. He runs a podcast called “Christmas Past” which has received mention from Vanity Fair, Modern Woman/USA Today, The Financial Times, Best Life, Bustle, Huffington Post, PopSugar and other local and national media outlets.

Harold Parker State Forest Enjoys the Shortest Day of the Year with Winter Solstice Celebration

North Andover’s Harold Parker State Forest is celebrating the start of winter with a free winter solstice celebration. The event is on Wednesday, Dec. 21, from 3-5 p.m., at Harold Parker State Forest, 600 Middleton Road, North Andover. Attendees may celebrate the solstice by taking a short hike before sunset at exactly 4:14 p.m. Warm clothing, hiking footwear and water are suggested. Hot chocolate will also be provided.

Haverhill High School’s Chorus and Band Offer Seasonal Holiday Music Tonight with Winter Concert

Haverhill School’s chorus and band are offering a night of seasonal holiday music with their annual winter concert. The concert takes place tonight, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., at Haverhill High School auditorium, 137 Monument St., Haverhill. The performance includes seasonal holiday favorites and ends with a special song that was once a mainstay for the high school’s chorus and alumni. Admission is free but donations are welcome.
