File this under “paying it forward.” Energy North Group, the parent company of Haffner’s Service Station, plans to distribute lunch and gas cards to Transportation Security Administration employees working at Logan Airport through Friday, Jan. 25.
As part of the “Lunch on Us” program—put on in conjunction with partners like Frito-Lay and Pepsi—workers in uniform or able to furnish an employee badge may enjoy a sandwich, bag of chips and a drink at the Airport’s Energy North Gulf, 100 Service Road, East Boston.
“We recognize the strain and sacrifices these dedicated employees are making to keep our air travel safe and uninterrupted,” Energy North Group’s Vice President of Retail Jonathan Ketchum said. “We want to do our share to express our gratitude and make things a little easier for them.”
More than 1,000 gas gift cards with a $20 pre-loaded value are being provided to Massport for distribution to TSA employees, the company said.
Citing TSA-provided statistics, CNN said one in 10 TSA employees scheduled to work over the weekend called in sick, with many citing “financial limitations” preventing them from clocking in. A partial government shutdown authorized by President Donald J. Trump is now in its fifth week, marking the longest shutdown on record.
