Marie A. (D’Amico) Mercier, 87, Former Roma Waitress

Marie A. (D’Amico) Mercier, 87, a longtime Haverhill resident, died Friday, Jan. 4 at Lahey-Hitchcock Medical Center in Burlington. Born in Bayonne, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Rose (Marsello) D’Amico, and was educated in the local school system, graduating from Bayonne High School in 1949. She was employed in New Jersey by Western Electric Co. and later after her marriage to her husband Norman in 1952, moved with him to Haverhill where she continued her employment at the North Andover facility.

Mercier was later employed at Mal’s Department Store in Haverhill and as a waitress and hostess at the Roma Restaurant in Railroad Square and later when it relocated to its present facility on Middlesex Street in Bradford.

A longtime member of All Saints Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish of Haverhill, Mercier was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and making a warm and inviting home for her family and their many friends who always felt welcome in her home. She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots as well as a member of the women’s bowling league at Saint Joseph Bowling Lanes.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Norman C. Mercier, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn A. and Steven Mscisz of Topsfield, and Norma J. and Peter Phaneuf of Haverhill, a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen A. and Andrea Mercier of Greenville, S.C., her sister-in-law Constance “Connie” Mercier of Methuen, her grandchildren, Jennifer Mscisz, Christopher Mscisz, Michael Phaneuf, Alexandra Ange and her husband Craig O’Brien, and Danielle Schultz and her husband Jack. Mercier was recently predeceased by her son William “Billy” Mercier on Dec. 30 and also predeceased by her sister Rose Castelluzzo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mercier’s calling hours and Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 5-8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Her funeral will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Burial will take place in the spring at Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, N.H. Donations in her name may be made to the American Heart Association.
