Manuel Soto of 52 Highland Ave. is now in the custody of Haverhill police to face attempted murder charges after shooting at police Tuesday night and leading them on a high-speed chase.

As previously reported by WHAV, Soto was arrested Tuesday in Windham, N.H. after leading police in two states on a high-speed chase that began with shots fired in the acre neighborhood in Haverhill, Mass. and ended when the 2002 Mazda Soto was driving crashed exiting Interstate 93 in Windham.

A passenger, 21-year-old Javonnie Chambers of Berlin, Maine, then fled on foot and was captured about four hours later.

Soto pleaded not guilty to New Hampshire’s reckless conduct charges in Rockingham Superior Court April 25 and both men now face Massachusetts charges of illegal possession of a large capacity firearm and attempted murder, with Soto also facing motor-vehicle related charges.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire or subsequent high-speed chase.
