A Maine man arrested last month in Haverhill remains on the run Friday after allegedly killing a sheriff’s deputy, stealing his police cruiser and robbing a convenience store in the town of Norridgewock, Maine.

As the manhunt for 29-year-old John Williams enters its third day, the FBI announced a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of Williams, alleged to have murdered Somerset County Cpl. Eugene Cole on April 25.
A 13-year veteran of the force, Cole is said to have been involved in the recent arrest of Williams’ girlfriend, pointing to a possible motive for the killing.
Williams was scheduled to appear in Haverhill District Court Wednesday to answer to gun possession charges tied to his March 22 arrest on Interstate 495. Taken into custody by State Police in Haverhill, Williams had his bail reduced twice before being released on March 31.
