If you travel Interstate 95 near Newbury, be prepared for detours and lane closures today.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to temporarily close the on- and off-ramps to and from I-95 at exit 56, Scotland Road. The closures are required to allow pavement resurfacing.
Closures begin at 9 a.m., and continue through 3:30 p.m. Work begins in the morning with the Scotland Road ramps to and from I-95 northbound closed. Southbound ramps will be closed during the afternoon.
Morning northbound traffic will be detoured to exit 57, Storey Avenue, Newburyport, to reverse direction onto I-95 southbound and back to Scotland Road. Those driving along Scotland Road seeking northbound highway access will be detoured to the on-ramp to I-95 southbound and then directed to exit 55, Central Street, to reverse direction.
Afternoon traffic along I-95 southbound will be detoured to Central Street to reverse direction. Scotland Road traffic seeking to access the on-ramp southbound will be detoured to the on-ramp to I-95 northbound and then directed to Storey Avenue to reverse direction.
There will also be lane closures on sections of Scotland Road, east and west.
