Nikomahi M. “Nikki” “Mary” (Carelis) Costas, 84, Worked at Peter’s Sweet Shop

Nikomahi M. “Nikki” “Mary” (Carelis) Costas, 84, of Haverhill, died Saturday, Sept. 2, at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.

She was born in Haverhill, Sept. 2, 1932, daughter of the late Kleovolos and Irene (Tickelis) Carelis. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Costas graduated from Haverhill High School, class of 1950, and attended the former MacIntosh Business School. Prior to her marriage she was employed as an office worker and, after her marriage, was employed at the former Peter’s Sweet Shop as well as for area bakeries.

She was a longtime member of Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church.

She was the wife of the late Michael Costas, who died in 1999, and her survivors include two sons, Michael Costas, Jr. of Haverhill, and Steven Costas and his wife Susan of Lawrence; two brothers, Charles Carelis and his wife June of Billerica, and Nicholas Carelis of Haverhill; three step-grandchildren, Kelly McNamara and her husband Scott, Michael McLaughlin and Kerrie LaBroad and her husband Chris; four great grandchildren, Delaney and Dorie McNamara and Jack and Reid LaBroad; niece, Michelle Carelis; two nephews, Paul Carelis, who was also her God son, and Peter Carelis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Friday morning, Sept. 8, from 9:30 to 11, in Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter St., Haverhill, followed by a funeral service at 11, in the church. Burial is in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford.
