Retired Haverhill Police Officer Norman E. Raymond, 87, of East Hampstead, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, died Wednesday afternoon, April 26, at Aurora Senior Living, Derry, N.H.
He was born in Haverhill, Dec. 30, 1929, son of the late Adelard and Blanche (Taylor) Raymond. Raymond attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School, and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. During the Korean War he served in the United States Navy. Upon being discharged from the Navy he worked at Bolta products, Lawrence, for more than 10 years. In 1960, Raymond became a Haverhill police officer until his retirement in 1981. He was the recipient of the Citizenship of the Year Award for saving people from a fire on Welcome St. in 1974. He was a longtime member of St. James Church, Haverhill.

He was the husband of the late Yvonne (Fleury) Raymond and father of the late David N. Raymond. His survivors include sons, Steven P. and his wife Mary-Ellen of E. Hampstead, N.H., who were his caregivers for 11 years, Michael R. and his wife Shirley of Haverhill, and Donald E. and his wife Lisa of New Hampshire; sisters, Joanne Raymond and Dorothy Pepin, both of Rochester, N.H.; close friends Donald Arsenault and his wife Catherine of Florida; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial Monday, May 1, 11 a.m., at St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. An hour of visitation precedes the funeral mass Monday, from 9:30 to 10:30, at H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Burial with Naval Honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Haverhill. Contributions in his memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 18 Orchard View Dr. Unit 4, Londonderry, NH 03053.
