Shawn P. Smith, 48, of Raymond, N.H., and formerly of Ward Hill, died Wednesday, March 29, at Mass General Hospital, Boston, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long illness.
He was born in Haverhill, Oct. 25, 1968, son of Robert E. and Delmar J. (Butcher) Smith. Educated in the Haverhill school system, he graduated from Haverhill High School.
For several years he was employed as a heavy equipment operator for various companies including LaPlume Excavation and the City of Haverhill. Smith enjoyed time spent outdoors fishing, boating and riding his motorcycle.
His survivors include his daughter, Alysha Smith of Manchester, N.H.; three sisters, Donna Smith of Deland, Fla., Gail Janvrin and Lisa Melo; three brothers, Donald Smith, Lloyd Smith and Robert Smith, all of Haverhill; fiancé, Jamie Ferguson of Haverhill; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the brother of the late Lenny Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
