Teenager Suffers Serious Leg Injuries After Being Struck

A 16-year-old girl was airlifted to a Boston hospital after being struck by an automobile early Monday night in Andover.

The unidentified teenager was struck around 6:30 p.m., near 195 Main St., Andover, according to Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe and Fire Chief Michael Mansfield. Andover Police Department and Fire Rescue responded to the report of a person struck by a vehicle.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking across Main Street in a crosswalk when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police,” officials said.

The victim was taken by Andover Fire Rescue ambulance to the parking lot of a nearby school, where a medical helicopter was dispatched. She was airlifted to a Boston hospital with serious leg injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident is under investigation by Andover Police.
