John Szot, 91, Former Asst. Treasurer at Salem Trust Co.

John_SzotJohn Szot, 91, of Sandown, N.H., and formerly of Haverhill, husband of the late Catherine (Cordischi) Szot, passed away Jan. 12,at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H., surrounded by his family.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Joe and Mary (Daish) Szot. Raised and educated in Haverhill, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged. Szot went on to attend McIntosh Business School in Bradford. He was employed at the Salem Trust Company in Salem, N.H., as the assistant treasurer for many years. He also ran the money room at the Rockingham Park for 20 years. He lived on Angle Pond and loved fishing there. He was known as the “grandfather” of the lake. He loved to travel and he took many cruises and day trips to the local beaches. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, cribbage and puzzles.

Szot is survived by his children, Robert Szot of Tilton, N.H., and his fiancé Jean McFaul, of Leominster, and Maureen Szot of Gloucester and her friend, Chris Norwood of Rockport; grandchildren Chanda, Anthony and Thomas Szot; great grandchildren, Annabel and Avery Szot. He was predeceased by his siblings, Ann DeQuattro, Joe Dys, Steve Szot and George Scott.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, Jan. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services follow at 7, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans, 275 Chestnut St. Room 515, Manchester, NH 03101.
