City Offers Discounted Overflow Trash Bags

For the holidays, the city is offering homeowners and tenants a 50 percent discount on the purchase of overflow trash bags used as part of the automated, wheeled trash cart pickup system.

The discounted rate of $3.75 per roll of five overflow trash bags began Monday. It applies to purchases at the  Highway Department, 500 Primrose St., or the treasurer’s office at City Hall, 4 Summer St., Room 114. The 50 percent discount is limited to one roll per household and ends Friday, Jan.6.

“Remember that there is no limit to the amount of overflow bags you can place curbside. Bags are to be placed next to your wheeled trash cart on your regular trash collection day; no appointment necessary. We hope that this accommodation helps you and your family during this holiday season,” a statement reads.

WHAV has made several attempts to reach Haverhill Solid Waste and Recycling Coordinator Franco Cordano for further comment. Public Works Director Michael K. Stankovich has the week off.

  1. Yes. They both pointed that out. Some care but not enough people do. Most are busy busting their ass supporting their family. Good thing for us is that WHAV is here and they care !

  2. Isn’t it nice that you can get a 50% reduction to buy trash bags to dispose of your trash, yet a year ago your tax dollar paid to dispose of your trash. To boot your taxes are probably going up too. Is this double dipping or is the cost of the bag actually a tax?

  3. In fiscal year 2013 mayor taxman raised taxes by 2.5%. The city then ended that year with a $3.5Million surplus. That’s $3,500,000.00 he charged taxpayers to run the city and when money he collected wasn’t needed or used he just kept the money!!!! And now here he is thinking he’s doing people a favor by giving them a discount on something they shouldn’t have to pay for in the first place!!!!
This mayor is a first class thief !!!
