He was appointed by Haverhill Superintendent of Schools James F. Scully following a recommendation from Director of Athletics and Wellness Thomas E. O’Brien, according to a statement Tuesday.

Wane played at the University of Connecticut from 1997 to 2001 for head coach Jim Calhoun. He helped UConn to the school’s first NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball National Championship in 1999.

After graduation, Wane was invited to the Los Angeles Clippers camp before playing professionally in Bosnia, Japan, Germany and Poland. He was also a member of the Senegalese national team in the 2005 FIBA Africa Championship.

Wane has been a French teacher at Haverhill High School since 2008 and currently resides in Lowell.
