AFSCME, SEIU Move Toward Unprecedented Cooperation

Now that SEIU’s board has passed a resolution creating close cooperation with AFSCME on politics, organizing and other issues, AFSCME’s board is expected to take up a similar resolution creating an unprecedented cooperative partnership between the two large unions. Both unions have conventions coming up where this new cooperation will have to be ratified.

AFSCME President Lee Saunders says the purpose of the unprecedented cooperation isn’t a merger, but that possibility has not been ruled out.

Spirit Airlines Flight Attendants Agree to New Five-Year Deal

Flight attendants at Spirit Airlines have agreed to a new contract for 2,200 flight attendants represented by AFA-CWA. The union says there are significant improvements for the flight attendants.

The five-year deal was reached with the help of the National Mediation Board under the Railway Labor Act. Negotiations began nearly nine years ago.
