Marjorie E. (Austin) Hamel, 88, Passed 5 Hours After Husband

Marjorie E. (Austin) Hamel, 88, of Newmarket, N.H., passed peacefully Saturday morning, April 9, at the Pines of Newmarket, N.H. just five hours after the passing of her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles A. Hamel. By each others side through life, so they will be together forever in their eternal life.

Born in Newburyport, May 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Wing) Austin. After graduating from Newburyport High School, she went on to graduate from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, becoming a professional artist and member of the Decorators and Painters Guild. Retiring from the Haverhill School System as a teacher’s aide, she was beloved by her students who benefited from her many artistic talents. Hamel also taught decorative painting in her retirement years. Her artistic flare was evidenced throughout her home, bringing her personal touch to every room. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to their special time with “Grammy” knowing that she would always delight them different arts and crafts projects.

She leaves behind two sons, Larrie Hamel and wife Denise of Raymond, N.H., and Dana Hamel of Las Vegas; two daughters, Dawna Osborne of Bradford and Lisa Hamel of Raymond, N.H.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Stephanie, Richard, Shannon and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Ryder, Kiera and Riley; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Visiting hours for Marjorie and Charles will be Friday, April 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Monument Square Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill. Their funeral services at the funeral home will be Saturday morning at 11, followed by burial in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to MSPCA Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
