Methuen Crash Sends One to Hospital, Interrupts A.M. Commute

A single-car crash overnight on Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen has local police asking morning commuters to seek alternate routes during a temporary detour between Independence Drive and Greenhalge Street.

An investigation by Methuen and state police is ongoing into what caused a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta to collide into a telephone pole at 12:56 a.m., Thursday, on Pleasant Valley Street near Greenhalge Street, according to a statement. The operator, identified as Logan Maggio of 36 Elmore St., Methuen, was “traveling eastbound on Pleasant Valley Street when it crossed the double yellow line, into the westbound traffic lane and subsequently colliding with a telephone pole.” Maggio, the vehicle’s lone occupant, was transported by Methuen fire personnel to Lawrence General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

“Due to the telephone pole being severed, Pleasant Valley Street traffic remains detoured between Independence Drive and Greenhalge Street. It is expected to be detoured through the morning hours,” a spokesperson said. “National Grid and Verizon crews are on scene making repairs.”

Electrical service to the area was interrupted this morning for repairs. A state police accident reconstruction team is assisting Methuen police in their investigation.
