Carmen L. Bastarache, 91, Worked at Area Nursing Homes

carmen_bastaracheCarmen L. Bastarache, 91, of Bradford, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 1, at Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley, Haverhill.

She was born in Lewiston, Maine, Jan. 26, 1925, the daughter of the late Evangelist and Albina (Vermette) Galarneau. Bastarache was educated in the Lewiston school system and was employed at Lynn Hospital, The Lenox Hill Nursing Home in Lynn and Baker-Katz Nursing Home in Haverhill. She also opened her home to care for children. She attended the former Haverhill Alliance Church.

Bastarache was predeceased by her husband, Philip Bastarache, who passed away in 1995; sons Richard Myers, who passed away in 2012, and Steven Bastarache, who passed away in 2014, as well as a sister Marguerite Bussier. She is survived by her children, Nancy Armstrong and her significant other Ben of Wells, Maine, Donna C. O’Connell and her husband Thomas of Bradford, and Leonard P. Bastarache and his wife Sandi of Oxford, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and a special niece Marguerite Griener.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday evening, Feb. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. (route 125) Bradford. Her funeral is  Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
