Howard F. Driscoll, 91, of Plaistow, N.H, and formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, Jan. 10, at his residence.
He was born in Haverhill, May 2, 1924, son of the late Michael A. and Eva (Karelitz) Driscoll. Educated in the Haverhill school system, Driscoll graduated from St. James High School with the class of 1942. He enlisted in the Navy Christmas Day, 1942, and served on both the U.S. William J. Finch 328 and U.S. William J. Patterson 104 escort destroyers. He returned to Haverhill during November, 1945, and attended a shoe pattern school in Lynn. He started his career as a pattern maker at Hutchinson Pattern Co., Haverhill, and worked in the local shoe industry until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of St. James Church, Haverhill, a former member of the Haverhill Golf and Country Club where he was club champion in 1961 and also club champion at Port Jervis Country Club, N.Y., in 1954.
Driscoll was predeceased by his wife Francesca “Frannie” (Cavalieri) Driscoll, who died in 1996, and his seven siblings: Anthony Driscoll, Dorothy McCarthy, Herbert Driscoll, William Driscoll, Mary Downing, Vincent Driscoll and Donald Driscoll as well as two nephews, John McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy. His survivors include three nephews, Joseph Driscoll and his wife Judy of Boston, Robert Driscoll of San Francisco Calif., and Michael Driscoll and his wife Margie of Haverhill, niece; Judy Baxter and her husband Bruce of Haverhill; grandnephews Matthew, Andrew, Adam Driscoll, Matthew McCarthy and Jeremy Watts; grandnieces Hannah Driscoll McNally, Erin McCarthy Lynch, Jillian Watts Atstupenas; great-grandniece and great-grandnephewShannon and Shawn Lynch; sisters-in-law Jesselyn Driscoll of Andover, Rose Whalen of Portsmouth, N.H.; brother-in-law Frank Cavalieri of Portsmouth, N.H.; and dear friend Eleanor Blomquist of Atkinson, N.H.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Saturday, Jan. 16 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, Winter St., Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth, NH. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
