Police Search Merrimack for Baby Possibly Thrown Over Bridge

Haverhill and Massachusetts State Police are investigating a report that a baby was thrown over the Comeau Bridge into the Merrimack River.

No body had been found as of 9:50 p.m., Thursday, but state police helicopters, a state police dive team and Haverhill firefighters are searching the area, Captain Robert P. Pistone, Haverhill police spokesman, told WHAV.

“We’re investigating an unconfirmed report. We have resources searching the area where report the was made and investigators are interviewing the witnesses who made the report,” Pistone said. Part of the investigation involves checking surveillance video in the area, he said.

The report came from two people who were passing by around 7:30 p.m. Comeau Bridge connects County Bridge Square with Bradford.
