Haverhill Chamber Helps Equip Patrol Cars with Life-Saving Gear

Stacey Bruzzese, Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce president, presents a donation of $6,509 to Police Chief Alan R. DeNaro.

Haverhill police are able to equip more patrol cars with automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) thanks to a nearly $7,000 donation from members of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce (GHCC).

The chamber issued, what it called, a corporate challenge to its members a month ago after learning the $1,500 devices are not included the city’s budget. The life-savings devices are used to treat heart attack victims.

“Haverhill PD began the process of outfitting their vehicles to better serve the local community. As HPD officers are usually the first to arrive on emergency medical calls the addition of this valuable tool will assist in saving more lives when responding to the scene of a ‘code blue’ call,” said Stacey L. Bruzzese, Haverhill chamber president and CEO.

“We at the Greater Haverhill Chamber are proud to be a partner to Chief (Alan R.) DeNaro and his team in this effort,” Bruzzese said. “It is only through collaborative efforts such as these that we can continue to provide the very best for both the business community and the public at large.”

She said $6,590 was raised through a series of stories, email blasts, telephone calls and individual donations at events. The chamber thanked Summit Behavioral Health, Pentucket Bank, Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce staff, Haverhill Bank, Align Credit Union, Nunan Florist & Greenhouses and Haverhill Housing Authority for donations.

  1. A year ago the City of Haverhill ended the fiscal year with a $3.5Million surplus.
Now citizens have to rely on a civic organization to provide needed life saving equipment for the HPD??
    WHERE DID THE $3.5MILLION GO???

Stacey, thank you, and especially all the chamber member companies who contributed for this donation.
But don’t you think part of The Chamber’s efforts should be to provide a role as watchdog to ensure accountability from government officials? This gift is fantastic, but it essentially enables the corruption and incompetence from the mayor and other local officials to continue.
