Donald B. Culbert Jr., 44, Gulf War Veteran, Former Haverhill Police Officer

Donald_CulbertDonald B. Culbert Jr., 44, of Keaau, Hawaii, and formerly of Haverhill, died unexpectedly at his home Monday, Aug. 31.

Culbert, was the son of the late Donald B. Culbert and Jane Culbert of Haverhill, and born Nov. 22, 1970, and was raised and educated in Haverhill. He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1988. He received his bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement from Western New England College in 2004.

He served on active duty with the U.S. Army from 1988 until 1991. During that time, he served in the Desert Shield/Desert Storm Gulf War as part of the 27th Engineer Battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division. Culbert received several commendations including the Good Conduct Medal and the S.W. Asian Service Ribbon.

He served on the Haverhill Police Department from 1992 until 2005 and received Policeman of the Year Award in 2001.

In his spare time, he loved exploring the Big Island of Hawaii on his Harley, watching the Patriots games and spending time with his four dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Culbert, and his three step-daughters Alexandra Cotto, Jessica Cotto and Cynthia Cotto’ mother Jane Culbert, sister Christine Bane, nephew Matthew Bane, and nieces Isabella Bane and Jaylene Ortiz.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Don’s Life Celebration on Sunday, September 13th from 4-8 pm at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832. A private funeral service will be held for immediate family on Monday, September 14th followed by a burial in Bourne National Cemetery.
