Darryl B. MacLeod, 54, Race Car Builder and Mechanic

Darryl B. MacLeod, 54, of Haverhill, husband of Susan G. (Beauregard) MacLeod, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, surrounded by family Monday, July 27.

Born in Haverhill he was the son of Arthur “Archie” MacLeod and the late Joy R. (Starbird) MacLeod. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Whittier Tech, class of 1978 where he was certified in the diesel mechanic trade.

As a young man, MacLeod was a groomer for standard bread horses as his mother was an accomplished equestrian. He was employed as a truck driver and mechanic for Northside Carting Company and later P.T. Container Company. He was well known and highly respected in the entire New England racing circuit as he was an accomplished race car builder and mechanic for several racing teams. He was most proud of his daughter, Tonisia, who followed his footsteps as a talented mechanic and who is a race car driver. He was known for his great sense of humor and he made friends with everyone he met.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew him especially in the racing community.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Tonisia S. MacLeod of Epping, N.H.; sister Melinda (MacLeod) Potvin of Haverhill; father George Basile; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Funeral services begin Friday morning at 9 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill. Burial will be private.
