Arthur L. Catton, 84, Former Canadian Fire Chief

Arthur L. Catton, 84, of Haverhill, formerly of Ontario, Canada, passed away at the home of his daughter Sunday, May 31, surrounded by his family.

Born in raised and educated in Norwich, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Lawrence Fitzroy and Ida Belle (Gordon). A veteran of the Canadian Navy he proudly served for five years.

He served as a fire chief in Canada for many years. Relocating to Haverhill in 1969, he was also employed as maintenance engineer for the Pentucket Manor Nursing Homes in Haverhill, Newburyport and Lowell. He later became superintendent at 1 Water St. in Haverhill.

A gifted writer, he especially enjoyed writing poems. He loved fishing and golfing but most of all, he cherished his time spent with family.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Jeanette P. (Camille) Catton, of Haverhill; two daughters, Maureen Gauvin and her husband, Jason, of East Hampstead, N.H., and Colleen R. Gainey, of Lexington, N.C.; step children Christopher Carter, of Lunenburg, David Carter, of Boston, and Jeannine Carter, of Canada; four grandchildren, Dana MacLeod, twins, Mackenzie and Michaela Hume, and Larson Gainey; brother, Albert Catton, of Canada; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick Catton, and sister, Edith Harrison.

Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill.
