Donald M. Buckley, 84, Korean War Veteran

Donald M. Buckley, 84, passed away April 22, at the Oxford Nursing Home, Haverhill ,after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Milton D. and Eva (Lalumiere) Buckley. He attended St. Joseph Grammar school and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1948. A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until being honorably discharged in 1954. Buckley was employed as a lineman for Massachusetts Electric Company for 48 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed traveling the world along with his late wife, Priscilla. He was proud to say that he visited all seven continents. An avid Red Sox fan, he loved watching games while having a beer or two. An animal lover, he usually had more than one cat in the house at any time.

The widower of Priscilla (Jeremsek) Buckley, who died in 2009, he leaves his children, Michael B. Buckley, of Quechee, Vt.; daughter Katherine M. Valvanis and her husband, John, of Atkinson, N.H.; step daughters, Paula E. (Pistone) Wentworth, of Haverhill, and Susan E. (Pistone) Shea, of New Albany, Ohio; grandchildren Robert Shea III, Allison Stevenson, Megan Shea and Ryan Wentworth; and former wife, Shirley (Venezia) Buckley. The entire Buckley family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of The Oxford and special caregiver, Rita Flynn, from hospice.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to call Sunday, April 26, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. Funeral services begin Monday morning at 10 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 at All Saints Church, Bellevue Ave. Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hilldale Ave. Haverhill. Memorial donations may be made to the MSPCA, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
