A retired Haverhill police officer is a candidate for the Groveland board of selectmen in the upcoming Groveland town election Monday, May 4.

Edward H. Watson is running for Groveland Selectman in a four-way race for three seats on that town panel. Elizabeth A. “Bette” Gorski is the lone incumbent seeking another term. Daniel J. MacDonald and Michael N. Wood are the other Groveland candidates. The top two vote-getters will serve a three-year term, while the third place finisher would serve two years.

Watson, who was traffic and safety officer on the Haverhill police department, ran unsuccessfully in the republican state primary for state representative last September against incumbent Second Essex Representative Leonard Mirra of West Newbury.

Watson could not be immediately reached by telephone for comment.
