Gretna (Worster) Abbott, 91, HHS Class of 1940

Gretna (Worster) Abbott, 91, of Wells, Maine, died at her home Wednesday evening, April 8. She was the devoted wife of 64 years of the late George Cecil Abbott, who died Jan. 5, 2002.

Born in Merrimac, Jan. 25, 1924, she was one of two daughters of the late Charles Herman and Eleanor Harvey (Preble) Worster and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1940 and a graduate of Burdette Business College in Boston, class of 1944.

A native of the Ward Hill section of Haverhill, Gretna was a longtime Merrimac resident. In her younger years, she was actively involved with the Girl Scouts and the Rainbow Girls. Some of her favorite pastimes were knitting, reading and watching the cars drive up and down Mile Road at Wells Beach.

She is survived by her sister, Charlnor (Worster) Rainville of Wells, Maine along with extended family and many lifelong, dear friends.

Visiting hours at Paul C. Rogers Family-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill, are Saturday, April 11,  from 11 a.m. to noon, immediately followed by services at the funeral home at noon and burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
