Saugus Drama Leaves Plaistow’s Fitzgerald in Limbo

Plaistow, N.H., Town Hall.

Plaistow, N.H. Town Manager Sean Fitzgerald remains on the job there after newly elected members of the Saugus Board of Selectmen voided his new contract in that town.

Saugus voters, supporting former Town Manager Scott Crabtree, ousted several members of the board during a recall election last week. The reconstituted panel voted Tuesday to void Fitzgerald’s contract and reinstate his Crabtree.

Plaistow Town Clerk Maryellen Pelletier told WHAV Fitzgerald remains on board there as he submitted a 30 day notice on March 16. On that day, one day before the Saugus recall election, he was sworn in as that town’s new manager, according to the Daily Item of Lynn. Voters in Saugus last week replaced all four selectmen who hired Fitzgerald last month, after firing former Crabtree last October.

David Van Dam, chief of staff to Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini, and former North Andover Town Manager Mark Rees were also finalists for the town manager’s job, said Wendy Reed, clerk for the board of selectmen. Fitzgerald was a former chief of staff to Peabody Mayor Michael Bonfanti. Rees resigned as Portland, Maine, town manager last October.
