Shirley Beebe Davis, 85, passed away at her home March 1. She was the widow of George S. Davis who died in 1982.
She was born Nov. 23, 1929 in Boston, and was the adopted daughter of Stuart and Anna (Little) Beebe of Haverhill.
She lived in Haverhill and Groveland before moving to Plaistow, N.H., in 1986, and Atkinson, N.H., in 2000. She was a 50-year member of the Leisure Hour Club; member of the Haverhill City Club, Whittier Club, Haverhill Historical Society, Friends of the Haverhill Public Library and former Hale Aid Society; past president and trustee of the Haverhill Day Care Center (formerly known as the Haverhill Day Nursery); organizer and founder of a Women’s Investment Club, Partners In Profit, in 1983; a volunteer at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, N.H.; former part owner of Davis, Davis and Moody Insurance Co.; and a former member of the Groveland Congregational Church. She was recently a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church.
Her hobbies included gardening, genealogy, needlework, making clothes for herself and her daughter when she was young, boating, tennis, reading, puzzles and traveling.
She is survived by her children G. Stevens Davis Jr. and his wife Patrice Small Davis and their children, Curtis Maxfield Davis, Harrison Small Davis and Ross Patrick Davis of Bradford, Stuart Beebe Davis and his wife Julie Benker Davis and their daughter Katharine Gordon Davis, of Atkinson, N.H. and Marcia Little Parma and her husband Michael Paul Parma and their children David Michael Parma, Karen Elizabeth Parma and Samantha Marie Parma of Somersworth, N.H.
Services, and interment at Linwood Cemetery, will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Dole, Childs and Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Her family gratefully acknowledges the loving care extended to our mother by the doctors and staff of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Merrimack Valley Hospice.
