Winnifred E. (McGlew) Aslin, 85, of Haverhill, passed Tuesday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, surrounded by her children.
Born in Rowley, Feb. 22, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Winfred and Grace (Fairbanks) McGlew and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. Aslin was a switchboard operator for the former New England Telephone Company and Baybanks and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Aslin was a member of the Haverhill Women’s City Club and a very active member of the Advent Christian Church of Haverhill, where she was an Honorary Elder. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with loved ones, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing scrabble.
She is survived by two sons, John P. Aslin Jr. of Haverhill and James T. Aslin and wife Lynne S. of Derry, NH; two daughters, Lisa E. Cusenza of Haverhill and Lynne E. Guerin of Newton, N.H.; her beloved grandchildren, Eric, Noelle, Daniel, Aeryn, Andrew, Briana, Jordan, Julia and Benjamin; sisters in love, Norma and Ruth McGlew; her sister in life, Virginia; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A memorial service for family and friends will be Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Advent Christian Church of Haverhill, 160 Carleton Street, Haverhill. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Burial at Riverview Cemetery, Groveland will be private.
