Francis Anthony Gueli, 89, WWII Navy Veteran

Francis Anthony Gueli, 89, a Haverhill resident for many years, died Saturday evening, Nov. 29, at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of the late Nella (Giolito) Gueli, who died June 23, 2003.

Born in Lawrence, July 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Angelo and Giusepppina (Spinelli) Gueli. After graduating from high school, Mr. Gueli entered the military, proudly serving with the United States Navy during World War II, from Sept. 24, 1943 to April 17, 1946, honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.

Returning from the war, he worked in construction his whole life and was a longtime member of Union Local 175. Gueli loved playing Bingo, going to Foxwoods, was an avid reader and lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. His greatest fans by far were his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gueli is survived by his son, Frank A. Gueli Jr. and wife Betty of Haverhill; his two daughters, Carla Berube of Haverhill and Linda Semeo and husband Donald of Milton, N.H.; five grandchildren, Monica, Vinny, Jessica, Christopher and Kevin; four great-grandchildren, Langden, Bennett, Ariana, London and Colin; a sister-in-law, Molly Gueli of Methuen, along with many generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Visiting hours at Paul C. Rogers-Carnevale Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill, will be Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services Wednesday morning will start at 9 at the Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10. at All Saint’s Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, 395 East Broadway, Haverhill.
