More apartments may be added as part of the redevelopment of the former Haverhill Music Centre.
The Haverhill City Council holds a public hearing Tuesday night on a request to expand the number of apartment units allowed in the Prescott Building under a special permit granted last year for a downtown development project. A petition to the council from Stateside Realty Group LLC seeks to modify a 2013 special permit for nine residential apartments and two commercial spaces at 2 Washington Street. The developer is now requesting a total 12 residential apartments and two commercial spaces with the addition of an elevator within the four-story building within the Downtown Smart Growth Overlay District.
Under the 2013 special permit unanimously passed with conditions by the city council, all the building’s units are to be rental units for at least five years, under requirements of the Mass Historical Tax Credit Program and standards for the Federal Historical Tax Credit Program by the Department of the Interior. The city council had also granted the project a waiver of an affordable housing requirement under city ordinance.
