Haverhill Man Faces Extradition Over Downtown Shooting Charges

Idelquis Batista, 21, and Joel Burgos, 22.

A Haverhill man was arrested Wednesday as a fugitive from justice in connection with a report of gunshots being fired downtown Sept. 17. At the time of the gunshots, police said, the suspect had an infant child in the back seat.

Joel Burgos, 22, with a last-known address of 9 Brookdale Lane, was taken into custody in Kingston, N.H. by Haverhill and Kingston Police as well as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force from Mass. and N.H. He was named a fugitive from justice based on an extraditable warrant from Haverhill District Court in connection with an incident where Haverhill Police responded to the area of Essex and Locke Streets at approximately 2:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired from a vehicle after “a suspected altercation between two male parties.”

Burgos, who was taken into custody at 6 Spruce Lane Kingston N.H., was arrested on warrants charging him with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, carrying a firearm without being licensed and reckless endangerment of a child.

Burgos is being held in Rockingham County Jail, Brentwood N.H., pending extradition to Massachusetts where he will be arraigned in Haverhill District Court.

Idelquis Batista, 21, also of 9 Brookdale Lane, Haverhill, was arrested earlier in connection with the case. Batista was arrested Sept. 29 and charged with accessory after the fact, reckless endangerment of a child and obstructing a police investigation. She is currently being held at Framingham Prison.

  1. So… this fool HAD A GUN BUT NO FID CARD, was illegally in possession of ammunition, arrested for reckless endangerment of a child. Looks like he needs something else to do….. such as a JOB to keep himself occupied.

I would also ask just how more gun control would have prevented this idiot from buying a gun and ammunition. Answer: Would do nothing.

It is not the legal gun owners who are the problem, it is people like Joel Burgos and his girl friend, Idelquis Batista who have nothing better to do with their time other than to get into and start trouble and endanger the lives of law abiding citizens,
