Mayor Escorts Baker; Says He’ll Work with Anyone

Last week Haverhill Mayor James J. Fiorentini said he would be voting for Democrat Steve Grossman who was a candidate for governor. Yesterday, he was touring downtown with GOP gubernatorial nominee Charles Baker. Soon, the mayor says, he will visit with Democratic nominee for governor and Attorney General Martha Coakley.

It is not what it looks like, Fiorentini insisted yesterday.

“My obligation as mayor is to work with whoever is governor and I will do so,” Fiorentini said in a post on his personal Facebook pages. There was no post on the topic on his “City of Haverhill Mayor’s Office – Official” page. He also said, “I am a Dem and proud of it but have to work with both sides.”

Fiorentini said he showed Baker downtown Haverhill, including the row of buildings slated to be demolished to make way for the Harbor Place project.
