Methuen Mayor Stephen N. Zanni is seeking to fill a newly-formed, all-volunteer Forest Lake Commission by mid-September.
The panel of five Methuen residents will, subject to review and authority of Mayor Zanni and the director of public works, have jurisdiction over the Forest Lake beach and forest. Their appointments to three-year terms is subject to approval by the Methuen City Council. One member will be designated annually by the mayor to serve as chairperson.
“Forest Lake is one of Methuen’s true natural treasures featuring a beachfront area where citizens can enjoy swimming, fishing and sunbathing,” said Mayor Zanni.
According to a press release, the new commission “will hold public hearings and workshops while working with Methuen residents to maximize the recreational advantages of the area. The commission will also create an annual plan for the beach and forest.” Forest Lake is open from June until late August each year.
Anyone interested in joining the Forest Lake Commission should fill out and submit a Talent Bank Application, available at www.cityofmethuen.net or in the Mayor’s Office, 41 Pleasant Street, Methuen, Room 306. Applications should be submitted before Friday, September 12.
