A new statewide regulation banning disposing food waste and other commercial organics waste at landfills or incinerators beginning in October is getting the attention of some Merrimack Valley business leaders.

A seminar, held on a pre-registration basis, is being sponsored by the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce Thursday morning in the conference room of its offices on Essex Street in Lawrence. The free seminar will focus on the new Massachusetts regulation and options available to entities which dispose more than 2,000 pounds of food waste per week.

Those impacted include food industry suppliers, restaurants and function halls, schools, hospitals and supermarkets. The seminar features speakers representing a food plant in Methuen, an operator of a food waste anaerobic digestion facility and one from the “Recycling Works in Massachusetts” program.
