Ruth E. (MacKinnon) Perkins, 95, Captain Chris’ Chef

Ruth E. (MacKinnon) Perkins, 95, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, August 12, at Penacook Place Nursing Home, Haverhill.

“Auntie Ruth,” as she was known by many, was born in Bedeque, Canada, March 30, 1919, daughter of the late Stanley and Eva (Mutch) MacKinnon and was educated there. She moved to Haverhill in 1936 and was employed as a chef at the former Captain Chris’ for over 10 years and Auntie Ruth also worked as a ribbon candy cutter at Sanborn’s Candies. A 35 year cancer survivor, she and her late husband founded “We Care,” a cancer survivors group at the former Hale Hospital. Mrs. Perkins was a member of the Riverside Memorial Church, Haverhill, for over 60 years.

She was the wife of the late Stanley W. Perkins, sister of the late Ralph S. MacKinnon, Margaret Colby, Florence K. Colby and aunt of the late Judy R. Mazola and James G. Colby. Her survivors include nieces and nephews, Karen Wendell and her husband Leon, Frederick Colby and his wife Patricia, Stanley R. MacKinnon, Suzanne Carey and her husband James, Kathleen Young and her husband Joseph, David MacKinnon and his wife Barbara, as well as numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews. Calling hours will precede the Funeral Service from 10:45 to 11:45 at the Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., Haverhill. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Service on Saturday, August 16, at 12:00 noon in Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., Haverhill. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Haverhill
