To raise awareness about youth mental health and the power of positive affirmations, Eammon’s Heart Foundation is working with Haverhill schools and the Nan Project on “Let’s Chalk About It!”—a community gathering to provide a safe space for young people to express themselves creatively while fostering conversations around mental health.

Let’s Chalk About It! is a free chalking event Thursday, Aug. 15, from 5-7 p.m., at Haverhill’s John C. Tilton School, 70 Grove St., back parking lot. Chalk and freeze pops will be provided.

Organizers say participants have the opportunity to use colorful chalk to create vibrant messages, drawings and affirmations that promote positivity and resilience. Designed not only as a fun activity, it is also as a means of encouraging open dialogue about mental health challenges faced by youth today.

Asked why chalking, they say, “Chalking is an accessible form of art that allows individuals to express their thoughts and feelings in a public space. It serves as a powerful medium for self-expression and can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Participants can inspire others and contribute to a supportive community atmosphere by sharing uplifting messages through chalk art.”

Organizers encourage parents, educators and other community members to take part—as an artist or someone who wants to make a difference—to help amplify the message.
