Keith David, John Goodman and Glynn Turman star in an exclusive public radio mini-series, “Treasure Island: A Telling for the New World.”

Airing Saturday and Sunday nights in July, 97.9 WHAV—on radio and Live Stream—the newly completed Treasure Island is described as an American, new world re-visioning of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, resetting the story in the Bayous, the Port of New Orleans, and the Caribbean in 1828 at the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.

The fully dramatized production stars the voices of David as the infamous buccaneer Long John Silver; Goodman as Billy Bones, the old pirate with a secret; and Glynn Turman as the elder Jim Hawkins, storyteller, along with members of the Firesign Theatre—David Ossman and Phil Proctor— and a large supporting cast of seasoned actors from radio, stage, screen and television.

The original score is by multiple-Grammy-winner Blues legend Taj Mahal.

“Treasure Island: A Telling for the New World,” is presented as a thank you to those who support public media and airs Saturdays and Sundays, July 4-5, 11-12, 18-19 and 25-26, at 10 p.m. with encores three hours later at 1 a.m.
