Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital is reopening its Cardiac Catheterization Lab this week with updated imaging technology and service capabilities made possible by $1 million in federal Community Project Funding.

Merrimack Health’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory was one of 15 projects across the 3rd District chosen by Congresswoman Lori Trahan and Sens. Edward J. Markey and Elizabeth Warren for local economic development and regional infrastructure.

The Cardiac Cath Lab is a specialized area where physicians diagnose and treat conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels, including heart attacks. It is a called a critical service as one of the only Cath Labs serving our immediate communities.

Trahan will be on hand Tuesday in Lawrence with Merrimack Health President and CEO Diana L. Richardson to unveil the upgraded Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in Lawrence. The event, congresswoman will discuss the investment and positive impact it will have on patients and families across the Merrimack Valley.

Key changes to the space include new state-of-the-art imaging equipment that improves imaging quality, shortens procedure times and can reduce contrast media use for patients. These changes improve providers’ diagnostic capabilities and allow for the health system to care for more complex cases in the community.
