Buttonwoods Museum is presenting a program Tuesday where individuals may learn about the artistry, science and sound of guitar through Juan Oscar Azaret, luthier, engineer, guitarist and physics professor.
Led by Azaret of North Andover, the free program is said to link together the craft, art and science of classical guitar as well as demonstrate what guitars look like under construction, show animations and vibrations of sound propagation, explore the physiology of how ears and brains perceive music and hear music on three different classical guitars by Berklee College of Music guitarist Jefferey Aach of Haverhill.
It features live musical performances and discussions where individuals can learn about how classical guitar is made, why certain woods are prized for instrument building and how craftsmanship shapes tone and resonance.
In addition, the museum says the discussion will answer questions such as: How does the vibration of a plucked string become the music we hear? What made legendary guitarist Andrés Segovia’s tone so captivating? And how do musicians and makers evaluate the quality and sound of a guitar?
“The Craft, Art and Science of Classical Guitar” takes place Tuesday, June 23, 7 p.m., at Buttonwoods Museum, 240 Water St., Haverhill. Individuals can register online by visiting the Buttonwoods Museum Facebook page.
