Haverhill’s planned Cogswell ArtSpace in Bradford will be more accessible to visitors thanks to a $115,000 Cultural Facilities Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council for an elevator.

There’s one catch, though, Creative Haverhill must match the state grant dollar-for-dollar and has already launched a campaign to do so. Donations to, what is being called, “Lift Cogswell,” may be made online.

The board of directors of the quasi-state agency MassDevelopment recently approved the grant, among 73 others totaling $6.5 million to support planning, development and maintenance of cultural spaces across Massachusetts.

Jointly administered by MassDevelopment and Mass. Cultural Council, grants are geared to nonprofits, colleges and communities that own or operate spaces primarily focused on the arts, humanities and sciences. The program’s 1:1 match requirement leverages investments from the private sector toward the development and preservation of these community assets.

Other than Creative Haverhill, the only other northeast organization to win a grant this round is Lawrence History Center Grant for $92,000 for insulation, brick pointing, roof and gutter work, lighting and solar panels.

Grant recipients celebrated the current round of cultural facilities investments last Friday at Zumix in East Boston.
