The Haverhill City Clerk’s is getting ready to kick off its fourth annual Top Dog contest to encourage timely dog licenses registrations and renewals.

“We like to incentive people to register their dogs,” City Clerk Kaitlin M. Wright told city councilors Tuesday.

Residents who opt to license their dog early between Feb. 1 and Feb. 28 and submit a photo of their dog to the City Clerk’s office will be entered into a drawing for dog tag numbers one through three.

Winner will also have their dog’s photo posted on the city clerk’s website, in the clerk’s office and sent to local media. The individual who wins dog tag number one will, for the first time in the history of the contest, also receive a trophy.

“Please send photos of your furry friend to our office or you can even bring your furry friend to our office, we would love to see that,” she said, adding, “We love to see dogs in costume and especially hats. It makes our day.”

Dog licensing takes place from March 1 through May 31 as usual, in the Licensing may be done in person at the clerk’s office, City Hall, 4 Summer St. or online here. A valid rabies certificate is required to license a dog. Licenses cost $15 for a dog that is spayed or neutered and $20 for a dog that is unaltered.

The drawing will be held on Monday, March 3.
