AHEPA Acropolis Chapter 39 of Haverhill, having recently celebrated 100 years as a Fraternal Order with the National Order of AHEPA, last month continued its Christmas Basket program, preparing and delivering 100 Christmas baskets to the elderly and shut in.

Chapter President James Tzitzon says the effort first started in 2007 and, to date, more than 835 baskets have been given to the elderly living at home and in area nursing homes. The basket program, an idea of chapter secretary Charlie Antonopoulos and his wife Felicia, was to bring some cheer to people during the holidays. He adds the chapter membership immediately jumped at the opportunity and volunteered to not only cover the cost yearly, but help deliver each basket.

Tzitzon says without the leadership of Charlie and Felicia Antonopoulos purchasing, preparing and scheduling deliveries, and the members stepping up each year to help continue the program, it would not have succeeded. Tzitzon also offers a special thank you to the wives of chapter members and some friends for helping assemble the baskets.
