Methuen voters on Tuesday elected Acting Mayor David P. “D.J” Beauregard as the city’s next mayor.
Beauregard will serve the remainder of late Neil Perry’s term, the three-term mayor who, as WHAV reported, unexpectedly died in September. He was challenged by James Sarcione, a lifelong resident and small business owner in the city.
Beauregard served as an at-large city councilor before becoming acting mayor. He will now serve the remaining term through 2025 with approximately 73% of votes in favor.
“Feeling incredibly grateful for the trust and confidence that has been placed in me by the voters of Methuen.” Beauregard told WHAV.
In a separate press release, he added, “Serving as mayor is an honor and a privilege that I will never take for granted. Tonight, we will celebrate our victory, but tomorrow the work to continue moving our city forward will begin anew and next year I will officially seek a full term as mayor of this great city.”
Several family members of the mayor-elect, including his sister Amanda Beauregard, were in attendance at his victory party.
“I am very proud of my brother, D.J. Beauregard. He is definitely the man for the job. He has been working his whole life for this and I couldn’t be more proud to be his sister,” she said.
Beauregard will serve the unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2025.
