It’s back to the future in a sense as a pasta and sauce company returns to its local roots.
The Artisan Chef Manufacturing Co., a collaboration of Tuscan Brands and Sal’s Pizza, said this week it is buying Buitoni Food Company, which offers Italian fresh pasta and sauces. The purchase marks a full-circle moment for Joe Faro, founder and CEO of The Artisan Chef Manufacturing Co. and Tuscan Brands, who previously sold his first company, Joseph’s Gourmet Pasta and Sauces, to Buitoni in 2006.
“This acquisition is deeply personal for me,” said Faro. “Buitoni has always represented the gold standard of Italian food. Having sold my first company to them nearly two decades ago, it’s incredibly rewarding to now bring Buitoni under our umbrella and continue its legacy. Our goal is to honor the tradition of Buitoni while infusing it with the innovation and passion for Authentic Italian quality that Artisan Chef stands for.”
The company will expand its presence in the food industry by leveraging its two facilities in Lawrence, with Buitoni’s facility in Danville, Virg. Buitoni, founded in 1827 and present in the U.S. since 1946, is known for its dry pasta, refrigerated pasta and sauce, and other Italian specialty products over the years.
“Buitoni represents the best of Italian culinary tradition, and Joe and I have a shared dedication to authentic Italian cuisine. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing its quality,” said Sal Lupoli, owner of Lupoli Companies.
In a statement, Faro and Lupoli said the purchase “further aligns” their “long-term vision of producing top-tier Italian cuisine while fostering community and innovation.
