The “Blankets for the Brave” Community Service Project aims to collect new, patriotic-themed fleece blankets for local veterans and active-duty service members stationed overseas.

The collection drive runs from Wednesday, Sept. 11, through Thursday, Oct. 31, with the first delivery scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15. The timeline ensures blankets are distributed before the holiday season.

The goal is to collect 500 fleece blankets—250 for local veterans and 250 for Operation Troop Support, which will also receive monetary donations for postage. Operation Troop Support will handle the packaging and mailing of blankets to troops abroad. Haverhill Veterans Services Officer Jeffrey C. Hollett will oversee the collection and provide updates.

The public can get involved by partnering to place collection containers around the city or by sponsoring one of five small acrylic donation boxes for monetary contributions. Additional opportunities will be announced for a “packaging party” to write, wrap, and pack the blankets. Individuals, groups or organizations interested in participating can contact Haverhill Veterans Services at 978-374-2351, ext. 3910, or email [email protected].
