Heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour have dropped trees, caused flooding, closed streets and knocked out power, including at two Haverhill schools, but schools remain open.

Haverhill Police Department said this morning it is responding to downed utility service wires, flooded roadways and resulting road closings. The department reported a detour near 920 East Broadway, suggesting Amesbury Line and Merrimac Roads to avoid it; Whittier Road was closed at the intersection of Route 110 and Middle Road, with suggested access to Corliss Hill Road at Route 110 near Biggart’s; Lowell Avenue was closed from Hadley West to Washington Street; Merrill Avenue was blocked in the middle; there is no access to Boxford Road; and Brandy Brow Road has been called impassable.

Haverhill Public Schools reported power outages at Haverhill’s Dr. Albert B. Consentino and Silver Hill Schools, but schools are open. Telephone lines were also out at the schools. Student unable to attend will be excused.

WHAV’s Wave Weather Meteorologist James Covington says a wind advisory remains in effect until 7, tonight. Listen to 97.9 WHAV for updates.
